Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate // A review

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate // A review

Hi everyone!

Today I want to talk about this product, which I discovered, bought and used throughout 2015. Having just run out, I thought I would share my opinion with you.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is one of the American brand’s best sellers, and almost every famous YouTuber that I know has spoken about it at least once, always positively I would add.

The name promises overnight results for your face, but does it satisfy this promise? Should we really believe the hype?

What it claims to be:

A replenishing night-time facial oil with distilled botanicals that visibly restores the appearance of skin by morning.

What it is: KMRC is a night-time skincare oil that comes in a lovely glass blue bottle with a pump. It is easy to use and to do so in precise quantities (Kiehl's recommends 2-3 drops, I used more). I found the cap to be difficult to close. This will not be a problem if you always keep it in your cabinet, but what happened to me is that one time I carried it in my beauty case, I returned home to discover a not-so-pleasant surprise. This product has a strong smell so I immediately realised that it had opened and the oil had spilt inside my case. I lost 1/3 of it, sadly. Even so, it lasted me around 7 months.

What it has inside: Gooood stuff. Evening Primrose OilLavender Essential Oil (which gives it the strong smell), Squalan, a botanical lipid that helps restore the skin’s natural moisture balance, keeping it extra soft and supple. 99.8% of KMRC ingredients are naturally derived.

What is does: Kiehl's midnight recovery concentrate will not make your skin change overnight. It won't produce a miracle but it will make a good difference when you look at yourself in the morning. In my personal experience, I have always noticed that the next day my skin is soft, balanced and looks good. However, it’s nothing truly incredible and I did not find the product to have any long-term effect. So while it does a good job, I found that the best use I had for it was to use it every once in a while, just to have good-looking skin in the morning. I did in fact use it constantly for two months — who doesn’t want lovely skin every morning? — but I didn’t notice anything more than what I experienced in the first week.

It has very good ingredients, natural oils, and these work very well while your skin is "at rest". It helps the skin’s self-healing process to become more effective but it will not fundamentally change your skin, if that makes sense.

As for the oil itself, I don't have very oily skin, but to those of you who have, I would say: don't be scared. My skin and my nose (which is oily) have always absorbed the product perfectly and I have never seen any residue in the morning. It will sink into your skin. Regarding application: I found 3 drops not to be enough for my whole face, so I applied at least 5. I put them on the palm of my hand and then applied it on my face with my fingertips, massaging from my nose outwards and on my forehead as well.

Price: 30 ml, 36£ or 37€ on Kiehl's website or in-store.

Overall judgment: it is a good product, it does a good job, but I said it before, it is something that other products can do better and even though I can't say "don't buy it", I didn’t exactly jump for joy when I saw the results, especially given the price. I don't think I will be buying it again any time soon (Sorry Kiehl's). If any of you have used the product and had a different experience, I would love to hear about it!

Have a good day!

*I purchased Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate with my own money. I have been testing this product on my skin for more than 6 months. This is my honest and unconditional review. Nevertheless, keep in mind that everyone's skin is different and something that works for me may not necessarily work for you in the same way.
